November 1, 2006 – January 30, 2007

A trip back through the fabled history of America’s cartoon legacy and forward to the future of the industry as a venue for entertainment, education and employment is the ticket for the 2007 Kalamazoo Animation Festival International (KAFI) slated for downtown Kalamazoo, Michigan, May 17th-20th.

During that four-day period, festival attendees can experience a film festival targeted for both adults and children that includes screenings of the entries chosen as finalists in the KAFI competitions in which $15,000 in prize money is on the table and no entry fee.

In the 2005 edition of KAFI, nearly 500 student and professional animators from 20 nations entered the juried festival. They hailed from Australia, Ireland, Austria, Canada, Spain, China, South Korea, The Czech Republic, Scotland, Singapore, Russia, Pakistan, England, India, Uruguay, Kenya, Italy, Germany, France and the United States. Of the nearly 500 entries, some 100 were selected as finalists in the categories of competition. One of the Canadian entries went on to win an Oscar for best animated short film at the 2005 Academy Awards in Hollywood.
