Welcome to the Kalamazoo Animation Festival International (KAFI), a premier animation festival of the U.S. and one of the top 20 animation festivals in the world.

  • Preview showing of Dreamworks Shrek the Third – see it in Kalamazoo before it opens nationwide – with the Dreamworks Happy Hour before Shrek and Shrekapalooza: an afterparty following the preview showing
  • “Simpsons Family Values – with Guest Star Queer Duck” – the keynote address from Mike Reiss, four time Emmy winning producer of The Simpsons, co-creator of The Critic, and creator of Queer Duck
  • Seven screenings of films selected from 500 films from 35 countries
  • Screening of Queer Duck: The Movie
  • The Cartoon Network Picnic
  • Portfolio reviews with industry veterans from Disney, Cartoon Network, Nickelodeon and others along with educators from the top animation schools in the country

There’s so much more – over 80 events and screenings to choose from! Join animators and industry veterans from such companies as Disney, Nickelodeon, Hanna Barbera, Cartoon Network, Dreamworks, and Alias. Additionally, we’ve welcomed animators and educators from Ringling, Savannah College of Art and Design, Laguna College, College for Creative Studies, Art Institute of Houston, Columbus College of Art, Milwaukee College of Art, Columbia College, Bowling Green State University, San Jose State University, and others.

KAFI has been privileged to screen many Academy Award winning and nominated films for such as “Ryan” (2004) by Chris Landreth (Oscar winner for Best Animated Short Film, 2005). Additionally, we have screened Academy Award winner “The Moon and the Sun” (2005) by John Canemaker and Academy Award nominated “Guard Dog” (2004) by Bill Plympton and “Das Rad” (2003) by Chris Stenner and Heidi Wittlinger.

KAFI takes place in downtown Kalamazoo, Michigan on a biennial schedule alternating with the prestigious Irving S. Gilmore Keyboard International Keyboard Festival
