Be a part of KAFI by producing your OWN trailer for our festival!

Festival trailers, often called “signal films” are those short (generally 15 seconds or less) pieces that appear at the beginning of every screening showcasing the festival’s name in an inventive and entertaining manner.

Usually, signal films are made by a local studio, post secondary school or independent artist but this year KAFI is going interactive. We are inviting you to be a part of the festival, to make your own signal film for KAFI.

And here’s the fun part: every signal film submitted will be shown on the big screen! The very best will be used at the beginnings of our screenings and all of them will be part of a special presentation at our Saturday evening main competition event.*

Who is eligible? Everyone: studios; professional animators; first time animators, independent filmmakers; not-so-independent filmmakers; animation students; non animation students; kids in high school, middle school, elementary school and nursery school; your mom; your dad; your dog; your cat; your budgie if they are so inclined...

How to get started? Begin by downloading the soundtrack we’ve provided. And then go ahead and animate to this track in any style or technique and with any content you choose, provided you include a version or interpretation of the KAFI hand and the letters K A F I somewhere in the piece.

And then send it in to us in the required format (see below) by April 9, 2007.

The entry rules:

You MUST use the provided soundtrack (download here).

The film MUST be the exact length of the soundtrack- no shorter, no longer.

You MUST include the KAFI hand (or a variation thereof) in your film.

You MUST include the letters K A F I somewhere in your film.

You MUST submit your film by mail in this format:

• A movie file on a DVD in NTSC format
• Write your name and address on the DVD
• Include a separate information sheet of paper with: your name, address, city, state, zip, country and email address
• Mail information sheet with your DVD

Deadline: April 9, 2007 (received at the KAFI office by this date)
